NAS Synology Vs Qnap
I'm looking at consolidation of a few servers data onto a NAS device, we have had a few office closures and the server warranties have run out so it makes sense to put it all on a NAS.
I have only ever seen Qnap in use and it seemed pretty good, but I've been looking into the Synology RS411 8TB rackmount, their support has got good reviews which is essential for us.
We have about 2TB of data to store and I wanted to set up a RAID 10 on a minimum 8TB system giving me 4TB of space which should cover us for a few years
I just wanted opinions and preferences on brand or info on better pieces of kit.

Hey Zurkowsky - i know someone who was looking at deploying a Synology. There was a huge thread going and Jamesc implemented a Synology so check with him... http://backupheroes.com/showthread.p...-a-vault/page3
QNAPs are very well priced but they had some issues with shipping delays late last year that pissed off even some of their loyalists.

Oops, Only just saw this thread! We certainly have deployed synology units and spent a resonable amount of time talking to synology about the entrprise units. We have only had one niggle with the units so far and that was what we believed to be a bug but the synology development team claimed it was working the way it was intended but this was fairly minor and was long before the units went live.
The only other issue is with the large number of consumer units they support when software updates come out the update servers are seriously hit and updates can take a while to download.
