Hey James, thanks for the email and sorry for the late reply. I had a question for you that hopefully you could help me with. If not, maybe some advise on the best place to post this. Thanks. See below:

    Retention Policies

We are running into customers with extensive tape legacy backgrounds. They want to apply the tape retention (ie GFS - Grandfather, Father, Son) structure to the Asigra platform. The issue is its' increasing the size of our backups deeming the solution to be not economically viable for the customer.

The question is are there other members dealing with the same issue and what are they doing from a data management perspective to both satisfy the customer and keep the costs down?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi, All,
I'm Phil Collins (no, not that one.), I work for EMC managed services in the UK. I manage a large installation for one of our customers, with 7 datazones across 9 sites spread across Europe. I've been working in the world of backup for far too long, after a history as a hardware engineer. My expertise (as you'd expect) is mainly in the world of Networker, but I've dipped a toe into Netbackup, Commvault and a few other products.

    Phil

    Hi Phil,

Welcome! Glad to see another Brit onboard. We've just been looking at the possibility of rolling out EMC for our next set of storage actually.
